What would you do if one morning you get up and go to the computer to check on your sales overnight and all of a sudden your site is gone? Cry, Scream, Freak Out, All of the above?
This recently happened to a friend of mine. He woke up and went to login and all of his sites were gone. All he got was a 404 from the service provider.
So I decided to modify my custom backup script so it was easily modifiable so other could use and am giving it away so everyone can make sure the are protected. No catch here either, it is 100% free, no upsell after the signup.
You can read the scary story below. Don't let it hapen to you!
My Marketing friend Chris Skyped me today with some unbelievable and very shocking news. He lost all of his internet sites, databases, everything. What would you do if you awoke and your web site empire was gone?
I am sure I have no idea of the Panic that set in. I cannot imagine what I would do.
And it all happened because of a few small mistakes, but the result was not a small thing. Chris had his hosting account setup to auto-renew on his credit card. He had this hosting account for years and it has always worked perfectly. Over time his email address changed and he never updated it with the hosting company. This past march his credit card that he had his automatic payment setup on expired. When it came time to renew the hosting company could not charge the card. And to make matters worse they could not email him because his email address was not changed on his account. So the hosting company had no choice but to close down the account and his site.
He lost all of his databases and sites. He now has to rebuild everything. He has alot of the stuff on his local hard drive and can recreate most of the sites but he has lost his databases forever. It is goign to take him a long time to recover
He never ran a backup in cPanel and just assumed that the hosting company was doing regular backups. He found out that they do a "best effort" backup not a guaranteed backup and they did not have a good backup for him.
I am one that does not think about backups much either. However, I created a script a long while back that did backup of my databases every day and I use an automated FTP backup program to backup all of my sites on some type of schedule. I also have dozens of hosting accounts on different providers and do not put all of my eggs into one hosting basket.
After this happened to Chris I started wondering how many other people out there could be in the same situation and be at risk of losing an entire server full of sites.
Today I modified my script so it is more generic and wrote up some quick instructions on how to implement it. I am offering it to anyone for free. I would hate to see anyone else every have this same thing happen. It can destroy a person, a business even a relationship.
In the mini-documentation I also included the name of the software I sue to automatically back up my sites every day and the schedule I use to back them up. There is a free version of the software available for download
This should remove any excuse you have for not having your sites backed up.
